A Collector’s Journey
Tom Tangen’s passion for antiques and collectibles began early, thanks to his mother’s love for collecting. As a child, Tom frequently accompanied her to art galleries, antique shows, and estate sales, where he discovered the joy of finding hidden treasures.
Political Memorabilia
His fascination with political memorabilia was ignited by his uncle, Ivan Nestingen, who served as the mayor of Madison, WI, became John F. Kennedy’s campaign manager, and later served as Undersecretary of Health, Education, and Welfare in the Kennedy administration.
Family Connection
This family connection to politics inspired Tom to start collecting autographs and other political artifacts.
Onto Hollywood
After college, Tom pursued his interests in film and television, leading him to Hollywood. He joined the Screen Actors Guild and enjoyed a successful 30-year career, acting in over 50 movies and TV shows. He also hosted a talk show, “Interviews of a Lifetime with Tom Tangen,” where he interviewed Hollywood celebrities, further fueling his passion for entertainment memorabilia. Tom began collecting autographs, scripts, clothing, props, and other items related to the film and TV industry. Today, his impressive collection includes over 10,000 pieces, showcasing his dedication to preserving history and pop culture.
